 - If you wearing a shield you can block phisical hith. Hits are: kicks, mellee and missilles - arrows, bolts, throwing weapons. The cap is 75% chance to block (CTB)

 - Can I block spells with my shield?

 - No. Mostly elemental damage are delivered by spells. Spells cannot be blocked by shield. Poison clouds are unblocable too. Smite and CE cannot be blocked.

 - Tornado is phisical damage. But it is a spell...

 - Tornado can not be blocked by shield. Only by Weapon block.

 - I understand. What about Weapon block?

 - Assassin's skill Weapon block depends only by skill level.

Weapon block works VS: melee, missilles and projectiles like Fire/cold/light bolts (incl Hydra’s), Bone spirit, Falling Meteor, Blizzard and any other “on-air” spells.

Weapon block do NOT works VS:   spells "On the ground"( like burning fire from meteor, fire wall, blaze),  “damage per time” (like poison clouds)  and expanding/exploding damage (like corpse explosion)

 - I understand. First hit by Tornado on air can be blocked. After first hit, when falls on the ground no longer be blocked. What about Dodge, Avoid, Evade by Amazon?

 - First is Block (if available), then Attack vs Defence and then, if you have been hit, passive skills applies with chance to avoid damage.  They works similar as weapon block.

 - Get back, Mizan. I will put the Horadric staff here.

 - Beware to lighthihg, sir. Bone spear and Lightning have 100% pierce and both are unblockable, even by Weapon block. Only Amazons avoiding skills can help. One of the most dangerous monsters are Vipers, using unblocable bone spear and poison. They are bugged and invisible poison clouds applyed also charge phisical damage. The best, you can do is to not walk or run around.

 - You dont use a shield, Mizan. How do you know all about blocking?

 - Do you know Fara, the blacksmith in Lut Golein? She makes shields and know everything about it. We were young, the nights in the desert are long and cold, my mighty spear...

 - No, there isnt a bug. D2 is online game and between two players always have a little disparity in time. Example in PvP: Player 1 cast Fireball VS Player 2.

What see Player 1: Fireball hit Player 2, but does not cause any damage. Why? Block?

What see Player 2: Player 2 runs and fireball miss. This is true!

Player 1 can see position of Player 2 with couple frames delay. Actualy Player 2 is not longer there and fireball fly away.

This misunderstanding is the reason of wrong statement "You can block spells". No, you can NOT! And this is not a bug.

 - Yes, Mizan, this is a very big bug

 - Oh, Boss, this is not a bug. This is Duriel. You can try you chance to block against Duriel's hits.

 - I suppose with long and complicate formula, right?

 - Unfortunately, yes. But all you need to know is the factors for succesful blocking using shield: Dexterity, Shield base, character class, attacker level, defender level, mod "Increase chance to block", +bonus from Holly shield.

 - Fight, Mizan, we cant run away

 - No need to run. Just hit and block. While you standing still, walking, attack and cast spells CTB is normal. While running your CTB is 1/3 of your base CTB with shield. Using Assassin's Weapon block skill, your CTB is 0 while running or walking. (WW is attack, teleport is spell, both dont inflict CTB)

 - Uhh, im freezing. This demon is cold as hell. Hasta la vista, baby! Give me a SoJ!
